Knowledge is not enough, it is now important to use that knowledge in projects. Our mission/objectives Providing students a context that will help develop skills required by companies How does it work The Epitech method, The Capstone Project «The success of Epitech pedagogy is essentially based on its project-based and innovative approach. Our students gain expertise and develop deep technical abilities by developing and implementing projects inspired by concrete business cases. Our pedagogy helps develop student’s creativity, self-confidence, and critical thinking and makes a real difference compared to the traditional learning methods.” Axelle Ziegler, Head of Content Excellence The Epitech method Our vision A rigid education is not well-suited for the continuous changes in the computer science sector, and students must, throughout their careers, adapt daily, learn to become an expert in emerging technologies, acquire new competencies, communicate with non-technicians, and be an innovator by offering new proposals. Our mission With its unique educational model, EPITECH will guide each of its students, not to merely become acquainted with technologies, but to acquire the qualities expected by firms in order to enjoy a long and prosperous career in the industry. Our Educational Methods Epitech does not teach technologies but instills behaviors that allow each student the capacity to evolve, to learn independently, to comprehend business practices, to work in teams and to convince decision-makers. In order to accomplish this, educational methods are founded on several pillars: Active Learning is done actively. Students interact with knowledge directly and it is only through the student’s action that learning occurs. If they don’t seek it, if they don’t try, they will not learn. Therefore the “professor,” as the classic intermediary between knowledge and the student, is eliminated. Instead, instructors become companions and catalysts in the student-knowledge relationship. Inductive In the same way, and in direct opposition to traditional education, the learning process incorporates inductive methods. Students are confronted with real-life situations for which they do not yet have the technical background allowing them to resolve the issue. The student must then analyze the situation, research and acquire the knowledge and know-how necessary to resolve the problem, corresponding to how companies function persistently or react to new technologies coming to the market. Constructive exchange and experiments Through these different learning situations created at Epitech, students are led to exchange, discuss, and challenge their opinions. These exchanges, which occur not only within workgroups but also with all other students, reveal paths, questions, and even new problems. Each student is led to seek, verify and test different elements in order to confirm or deny the truth shared in these exchanges. The team spirit learning method Our vision: Nowadays more than ever before, team spirit guarantees success. « The difference between success and failure is a great team » Dave Kerpen How does it work Joining Epitech makes students a part of a team where skills are shared and students learn from each other as well as "coaches". Accommodation Epitech doesn’t offer dormitories on campus, but the International Education Office will assist you in your search for accommodation: Flat-sharing with Epitech students, Student residences, Studio apartments. Our connected career services Our mission: To Develop relations between Epitech and IT companies to the advantage of the students. How does it work Company internships: Internships let students develop all the qualities needed to be an IT expert: precision, rigor, efficiency, autonomy, adaptability, tenacity, method, creativity, curiosity, dynamism, leadership. Students will apply these qualities by taking part in 6 months of economic activity during their studies. Epitech conferencesConcept: allow companies to share their vision of the market with students, show their knowledge or a new technology. These are meeting points for students and companies. Conferences allow students to face various problems, such as creating a company, managing, new technologies, etc. Our accomplished alumni network Our vision: Building and developing a professional network is necessary for every student’s career, so they are able to identify and take advantage of opportunities. Our mission: To answer student’s questions, to give opportunities, and mainly to help alumni and student’s to keep in touch. How does it work Our Alumni network contains about 3000 former students Actually, creating a startup or being hired by a great company is possible because Epitech is key to identify, in the alumni network, profiles with great experiences, exceptional and atypical careers, known skills. Alumni will give a necessary advice to help the student in the project and help them to identify, avoid traps. The Alumni network is a very great tool all along Epitech’s careers. Our success story Alexandre Malsh (promo 2009) and Jérémy Nicolas (promo 2009) started the Melty project in 2008. This was to be a web magazine about news, entertainment, and fashion for people aged 18 to 30. The meltynetwork websites generate over 15 million visits each month. These translate through strong partnerships in the fields of research and development at regional, national and European. 500 students Private institute for higher education International exchange agreements Engineering degree recognized by the "Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur" Unique and different The Institut Textile et Chimique de Lyon (Lyon Textile and Chemical Institute) is the only engineering school directly descended from the textile, leather and chemistry schools founded by professionals in Lyon more than a century ago. ITECH-Lyon trains engineers in plastics, textiles, composites, and chemistry by examining paints, inks, adhesives, cosmetics, leather and its uses (footwear, leather goods). With associative status, ITECH-Lyon is a Grande Ecole created and backed by professional unions and companies. In addition to its main engineering course, ITECH-Lyon offers courses from undergraduate to postgraduate level: BTS (Brevet de technician supérieur - higher vocational training certificate), professional degree (jointly awarded by the Université Claude Bernard), Post Premier Cycle (postgraduate) and Specialist Masters (Conférence des Grandes Ecoles seal of approval. ITECH Lyon is strengthening its worldwide presence and international exchanges (from the USA to China, as well as Europe). Though Education is ITECH-Lyon’s primary vocation, industrial relations feature amongst its strengths. These lead to the creation of strong partnerships in the fields of research and development both regionally, nationally and throughout Europe but also in continuing professional, graduate and non-graduate education. ITECH-Lyon and its subsidiary, ITECH Entreprises, make their full range of technical and human resources available to companies, by way of various forms of contracts. These services include research projects of one or more years in collaboration with universities, industrial studies, analyses, trials, consultancy, rental of equipment including possible staff secondment (full-time research professors) and vocational training. As underlined by Louis Philippe Reynaud, ITECH’s President, and Jérôme Marcilloux, its Director General: “Our school contributes to improving companies’ added value through innovation.” ITECH, more than an institute, a hundred-year-old institution. ITECH was born in 1988 from the merger of ESITL and EFT, two higher education schools founded by professionals. ESITL (Lyon Higher School of the Textile Industries) was founded in 1840, the embodiment of the exceptional tradition of Lyon’s silk industry. EFT (French Tanning School), founded in 1899, is a branch of the University of Lyon’s Industrial Chemistry Institute, that firstly specialised in Leather before branching out into Plastics Engineering (with the CNAM) before adding a Paints, Inks and Adhesives department in 1969 and subsequently becoming ESCEPEA (Higher School of Leather and Paints, Inks and Adhesives) in 1983. Its merger with ESITL in 1988 saw the creation of ITECH and lead to the creation of a Textile department. ITECH, which inherited the professional expertise of both its parent schools, successfully employed the complementary nature of their teachings and the close relations they had always maintained with the world of business. In addition to these assets, ITECH offers progressive education, as its courses systematically incorporate new machines and technological developments. ITECH-Lyon was founded with the aim of combining 4 professional fields into a single course of study focusing on "polymer materials and coatings": formulation chemistry, plastics engineering, leather, and textiles. ITECH-Lyon trains engineers in the fields of polymers and their applications, particularly plastics, textiles, composites and chemistry (covering paints, inks, adhesives, and cosmetics), as well as leather and its uses (footwear, leather goods). ITECH-Lyon is a private association and a State-accredited Grande Ecole, created and supported by professional unions and companies. ITECH Lyon strengthens its worldwide presence and international exchanges through its privileged academic and industrial contracts. Innovation is ITECH-Lyon's motto, which it applies to both its courses and Research & Development. So as to respond to current trends in society (sustainable development, the inclusion of sensory properties, etc...), ITECH-Lyon is expanding its research activities and optimising the management of its resources, increasing the potential for cross-disciplinary application of its subjects. The PFEL (Polymer Functionalisation Engineering Laboratory) is where this "cross-fertilization" takes place. ITECH-Lyon has developed strong regional, national and European R&D partnerships. The School: more than 450 Students 4 levels of training: * ITECH Engineer: 3 years (postgraduate admission) 4 majors: Formulation Chemistry (paints, inks, adhesives, cosmetics, etc...), Plastics and composites, Textiles and composites, Leather. Admission to graduate studies (Bachelor’s in Chemistry, ...). Accredited by the CTI (French Engineering Qualification Committee) and EURACE. NEW European Section: Formulation Chemistry major; all courses taught in English; Sponsored by the Paint Industry (Tuition fees and International Internships) * Specialized “Mastère”: 1-year "Innovation and new product engineering: from the concept to the marketplace." Admission to postgraduate studies (engineering degree, masters or equivalent) as initial training or continuous education. Course accredited by the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles. * Certificate in Cosmetics and Formulation of Coloured products: 1-year Adhesives/cosmetics/color/paints and inks. Admission after 2 years of undergraduate studies. * IPL Summer School: 5 weeks Mid-June to mid-July focusing on polymer applications in materials. French language instruction: 40 hours of instruction; 50 hours of small-group practice, plus cultural excursions and more. Polymer Sciences: Nowadays it’s all about polymers! The field represents modern science par excellence, as direct applications of polymers are present in our day to day lives: leather products in the luxury industry, helicopter blades, anti-UV inks, all-terrain and all-weather clothing, bicycle frames made of composite materials, new anti-allergic textile products... all of which come into existence through the creativity of engineers. Synthesizing and handling polymers requires a strong scientific training (in chemistry, mechanics,...). However, developing applications is a matter of taste and passion. ITECH Lyon Engineering School, which specializes in leather products, textile and plastic materials, and formulated chemistry products (paints, inks, adhesives, cosmetics,...), has made science and in particular polymer science, the core of its education. Its specialities, often complementing each other, have aided in the advancement of polymer sciences which is in constant scientific and economic development. The Engineering program This training relies on 2 principle scientific fields: chemistry and physic-mechanics. Basic knowledge is developed in 1st year in order to prepare the students for their major. Education at ITECH focuses around polymer sciences. ITECH engineers assert their skills in this field throughout their careers with their choice of major helps them to find their first job with ease. On top of technical and scientific skills, ITECH allows its pupils to reveal and develop their social skills with economical and social sciences, and many presentations. ITECH’s Engineering Degree is the equivalent of a “Master’s Degree” for those interested in following a career outside of France. Unique and Different ITECH trains engineers in 3 years. The type of education offered is: Regular student status Apprenticeship status (alternating courses at school and work in a company over the 3 years) Students following the regular course choose one of the 4 majors offered after their 1st year: Formulation Chemistry: Paints, Inks, Adhesives and Cosmetics Plastic Materials Textile Materials Leather ITECH is a member of the Conference des Grandes Ecoles and its degree in chemical engineering (Master’s degree) is accredited by the CTI (Comission des Titres d’Ingénieurs). A dynamic interaction ITECH was created by professionals and is anchored in an industrial environment which is constantly changing. For this reason, professional syndicates and industrialists in each field (paints, inks, cosmetics, plastics, leather, and textile) sit on the Board of Directors of the Institute. The school takes into account the expertise of these respective syndicates in order to update and refine the orientations of the programs taught. The relations that are forged with the firms contribute in promoting the adaptability of the future engineer (Conferences, information days, professional forums...). This is case of a new program which was opened in 2014. In order to satisfy the demand for paint engineers needed over next decade, ITECH launched the European School of Formulation Chemistry. All courses are taught in English in order to attract European Bachelor students towards this major which in high demand in the paint sector. Rigorous creativity Like any science, advances in the fields of polymers are based on the creativity of the researchers and engineers that practise the discipline. The ITECH student must be creative as the science and technology which is at his or her disposal is constantly evolving. This characteristic is taking into account in the teaching at ITECH. Multidisciplinary constitutes on its own a certain guarantee in integrating the working environment. But in order to encourage the creative side of the student, ITECH organizes at the end of the 3 year course, Proj’ITECH, a gathering which allows students to present their final year project work in front of researchers, heads of R&D departments and industrialists. Hands on training ITECH is adamant in supplying students with a strong professional experience. On top of a multidisciplinary teaching, the institute adds a 10 month minimum of mandatory internships in companies for the regular status students. Regular status End of 1st year: International experience - minimum 6 weeks This international experience is prepared in advance in terms of an intercultural approach and the expectations regarding the content of the report are fully defined. This is an individual review of each student’s experience and acts as a basis for reflection during the intercultural lessons the following term. End of 2nd year: Engineering placement - minimum 8 weeks Practical application with privileged trainee status allows students to come face to face with the realities of corporate life and become acquainted with companies’ material, economic and human requirements. End of 3rd year: Final year project - maximum 6 months This is a project generally entrusted to young engineers. Students demonstrate that they are capable of acting autonomously and tackling complex subjects in situations that can, at times, prove complex. The project involves a minimum 5-month placement with a company or laboratory either in France or abroad. Optional 1-year work placement (between 2nd and 3rd year) Students can, if they wish, complete a 1-year work placement with a company or foreign laboratory but are required to spend at least 6 months abroad. In fact, an extended stay outside France is always highly beneficial and leads students to thoroughly think through their career plan. Jobs and Employment Half of ITECH graduates sign their contract before their degree has been delivered. After 6 months, more than 90 % of the graduates are hired. Activity sectors Chemical industries, chemical products manufacturers Cosmetics, paints, varnishes, adhesives, inks, Aeronautical industry, automotive, packaging, compounded materials, plasturgy Leather industry, shoes, leather goods, tannery, luxury Textile industries, technical and medical textiles, clothing Commerce and distribution Consulting ITECH Career Counselling Service has been helping graduates with employment for more than 25 years. Born with the expansion of new technologies, EPITA has kept pace with their evolution. The courses, though very technical at the beginning, have opened up a great deal even as the technical complexity has increased. EPITA took the opposite approach of the one adopted by most other engineering schools: whereas the latterly allowed computer science in to try to give it a place, EPITA brought in the other sciences to join information technology and yet without losing any of its main competencies that constitute its strength and identity. In permanent contact with the business world, EPITA also shares its values: pragmatism, responsible risk-taking, and innovative spirit. The core values of studies are action, responsibility, and efficiency. Joining EPITA will give you an educational experience where progress is a "must" and success a "requirement". Progressive immersion in the business world Built around the real needs of the business world, the EPITA curriculum is designed to meet its expectations. From the Improvement Committee and the Scientific Committee, where senior business executives and high-level managers provide their input for improving the school's programs and research focus (IBM, Microsoft, France Télécom, Cisco, Syntec...) to the classes themselves often taught by recognized professionals working in the industry, business is present at all levels of the school. Being so involved in the teaching content and process, companies logically offer among the highest salaries upon graduation and year after year, they ranked the school among the very best (Rankings published by the main French business and IT magazines: Entreprendre, 01 Informatique, 01 DSI, Réseaux et Telecoms...). Lastly, every year, companies donate over one million euros contracting special projects to the school's applied research laboratory, and one million euros to the Junior Enterprise program. The Key to All Computer Engineering Careers Time and again, businesses state that what they most appreciate about EPITA is the spirit of the school, always marked by its closeness to reality: numerous projects, high-level internships, and close involvement within the business world. EPITA alumni apply their professional specialties in areas as varied as software and hardware solutions design, consulting, research and development, networks management. In short, their skills shine in all aspects of computer engineering. They become amongst other fulfilling jobs: research engineers, project or studies managers, technical directors, consultants, business managers, operations managers or network architects. At EPITA, we seek the very best students, students dedicated to meeting the challenges we offer, students who have a taste for concrete achievement, a spirit of initiative, and very diverse centers of interest. Thirty-five student clubs can attest to this. Some have existed for years, while others may last only a semester. It's a question of feeling and flexibility. EPITA is also what you make of it.
